What do we know about the MG Cyberster fully electric roadster?

Updated: May 20, 2023

The MG Cyberster is an upcoming electric roadster concept car from MG Motor, a British car manufacturer owned by SAIC Motor. The car was first unveiled as a concept at the 2021 Shanghai Auto Show, and there is not yet any information on when it will be released for production or if it will be available in all markets.

According to MG Motor, the Cyberster is designed to showcase the company's commitment to electrification, and it features a number of advanced technologies. The car is said to have a range of over 800 kilometers (500 miles) on a single charge, and it can reportedly accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) in less than three seconds.

Inspirational EV design

According to MG Motor, the Cyberster concept car was inspired by the brand's rich heritage and its vision for the future of electric and autonomous driving.

The MG Cyberster also features a futuristic design with a prominent "kammback" rear end and a sharp, angular front grille. The car's body is made from carbon fiber, which helps to reduce weight and improve performance.

The car's design is said to be influenced by classic MG roadsters of the past, such as the MG B and MG A, which were known for their sleek and sporty styling. The Cyberster's distinctive "kammback" rear end, which features a sharply sloping tail, is a nod to classic racing cars of the 1950s and 60s.

At the same time, the Cyberster also represents a forward-thinking vision for the future of electric and autonomous vehicles. The car's advanced technologies, including its 5G connectivity and autonomous driving capabilities, are designed to showcase MG Motor's commitment to innovation and sustainability.

What is MG's plan for electric cars?

MG Motor has made a significant commitment to electric vehicles (EVs) and has set out an ambitious plan to develop and expand its range of electric cars in the coming years.

At present, MG Motor offers two electric models, the MG ZS EV and the MG5 EV. Both of these cars are affordable, practical, and well-equipped, and they have been well received by customers and critics alike.

Looking ahead, MG Motor has stated that it plans to launch more electric models in the future, with a focus on developing affordable and accessible EVs that can meet the needs of a wide range of customers. The company has also set a target of having 50% of its global sales be electric by 2025.

In addition to developing new EV models, MG Motor is also investing in the infrastructure needed to support the growth of electric vehicles. The company has partnered with charging providers to install charging points at MG dealerships and in public locations across the UK and other markets.

MG, and the future of EV

Other notable features of the Cyberster include advanced connectivity and autonomous driving capabilities. The car is equipped with 5G connectivity and a number of high-tech sensors, cameras, and other systems that allow it to drive autonomously in certain situations.

Overall, the MG Cyberster appears to be an exciting and innovative concept car that could offer a glimpse into the future of electric and autonomous vehicles. However, it remains to be seen whether or not MG Motor will move forward with production and release the Cyberster for sale in the coming years.
